Skip the Straw

By Ely Robinson

I’ve always liked chocolate milkshakes.
I love them, Yes! I really do.
Full of ice cream; for me such a dream.
I’m guessing that you like them too.

There’s only one thing that’s a problem.
To drink one, we use plastic straws.
That’s an issue for me and it will always be.
And I hope it’s an issue for you.

Straws have always been harmful
To wild life in sea and on land.
It’s important to me that you also see
Be aware! and give me a hand.

We can buy straws made of metal
Or give them up once and for all.
Of course, both of these would certainly ease
the damage they cause overall!

There are also some straws of bamboo.
That are perfect for me and for you.
Cause they disintegrate at a startling rate.
And paper ones always work too.

So, join me and give up that straw!
I believe that this should be a law.
All the kids in your class.
Should drink straight from the glass.
And save animal lives while they do!

Miss Ely suggests teachers (or parents) use the previous worksheet for Grade 6 elementary school kids.
